Example 5 - Configure the variable to read a value from the eCATT recording

Imagine you need to configure a variable in an automation object to capture and display external value from the eCATT recording. As a common use case, we are going to use a PO number.

In this section, we are going to describe only how to set up the variable. In case you would need additional information about how to create an eCATT Automation Object or eCATT Test Case, please refer to:

  1. As a start point, we should have at least two test cases - one created to run the eCATT recording to create the new PO document. We would need to modify an Automation Object used by the first Test case, which stores the information about the eCATT recording.

2. Under the Automation object configuration, add the new variable:

 

3. Configure the Variable Processing as shown on the screen below.

You need to add an Action “Populate variable after execution” and Var. Proc as ECATT_LOG to read the message from the log using XPath. As a Processing Parameter, add the correct XPath.
